What is Conditional Registration?
Conditional Registration is available for vehicles that do not comply with the states vehicle standards and the Australian design rules OR that are built to perform specific purposes OR that only require limited road access.
Golf carts, utility vehicles, resort vehicles and special purpose vehicles in many cases are included in the list of vehicle types, which depending on where and or how the vehicle will be used may require Conditional Registration.
How to apply for Golf Cart Conditional Registration.
NSW Golf Cart Registration
You need to visit a motor registry, or send an authorised representative, to obtain your Conditional Registration in order to register your golf cart buggy or electric vehicle.
You’ll need to provide ID, or in the case of registering an electric vehicle in the name of a company, proof that the company is a legal entity. You’ll also need proof of entitlement to register the electric vehicle, documentation to certify the electric vehicle is roadworthy, a completed application form for Conditional Registration and payment for the application fee.
If your application is approved, you will receive a certificate of registration, a label and a set of number plates for your golf cart or golf cart derivative vehicle.
What features are required for Conditional Registration
The rules and regulations vary from state to state (and Territories) but as a general guide you will need,.
Head lights, tail lights, turn signal blinker lights, horn, rear vision mirror, rear reflectors and some areas may require an amber beckon light. (Please contact EMC or your local transport authority for up to date information)

QLD Golf Cart Registration
You need to visit a Queensland Transport Customer Service Centre or other Queensland Registration Agency to organise a registration of your golf cart.
You’ll need to complete a Conditional Vehicle Registration Form, nominate your compulsory third party insurer and pay the registration fee.
VIC Golf Cart Registration
Make an appointment to visit VicRoads and attend a vehicle inspection at Vic Roads (if the vehicle has previously been registered in your name and the details have not changed you do not need to attend a vehicle inspection).
You will need to bring to your appointment; the vehicle (if inspection is required), evidence of identity, evidence of ownership and a current certificate of roadworthiness.
Pay your registration and number plate fees.
SA Golf Cart Registration
Visit a Registration and Licensing Centre or Service SA Centre between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday or visit www.ezyreg.sa.gov.au/ezyreg and renew your registration online.
The information required is the registration number of your golf cart or golf cart derivative vehicle (if renewing registration), the name and address of the registered owner, the period registration is required for, the type and make of vehicle, payment details and evidence of identity.
