EMC 'Adopt a Pensioner'
You may have seen a program on Today Tonight recently about Betty Moore; a single aged pensioner has fought a long hard battle to get an increase in the pension - a simple pay rise of just $10 a week.
Betty’s campaign and calls for help have been ignored continuously by the Government as they refuse to increase the pension and it was then that the ‘Adopt a Pensioner’ campaign was introduced.
After watching the Today Tonight program on channel 7, Christine Craddock from the Electric Mobility Company was so touched by Betty’s plight and her efforts to get pensioners a better deal and noting that Betty was struggling to get around with a walking frame, Christine arranged to give Ms Moore a brand new EMC mobility scooter.
Christine said “I was touched and inspired by the selfless effort Betty is putting in to get all pensioners a better deal. I could see Betty has some difficulty with her mobility and I thought if we can support Betty with a new EMC mobility scooter it could help to further assist her in her efforts”.
The new mobility scooter was presented to Betty on Channel 7’s Today tonight program aired on Friday 7 November 08.
The producers of Today Tonight offered to come out to EMC head office and interview Christine but Christine declined and said “I didn’t offer the scooter as a publicity stunt or to get any free airtime; I was genuinely touched by Betty’s plight and wanted to help to make things a little easier for Betty and inspire her to keep up her good work”.
If small businesses and private individuals can get behind Betty and the ‘Adopt a Pensioner’ campaign - with a little assistance who knows how far this can go. For more information or if you want to help Betty please contact Christine Craddock at the Electric Mobility Company so Christine can put you in touch with the correct person.
